2014/05 May Trips
Date: Sat 3rd May Name: Crown Peak Fitness: Medium Contact: wakatipu.walker@gmail.com Names by Thurs 1st May. Details: Joint trip with Southland Tramping Club. Meet at 9 Denbigh St Arrowtown at 9am to sort out car pooling. There are only 5 from Ingill at this stage. We will leave a car at Glencoe Rd (to take drivers back to start later), and we will then drive to Crown Range saddle. Will walk up ridge to Crown Peak ( highest point on Crown Range), then down to Brackens Saddle & then down onto Glencoe Rd. Its a 500m ascent but a 1100m descent. Could be very cold on the tops so warm clothing ...take thermos (optional) and water. Naturally its going to be weather dependent, if needed another trip lower down somewhere will be 2nd choice. Details: Alan Nelson will be speaking on his trip last year to Greenland and Iceland - so good that he is planning a return trip. Date: 10-13 May Name: Kepler Track Fitness: Medium Contact: Kay More Information: The proposal is to do this trip in 3 days. I intend to leave Saturday morning about 8am and drive to the Kepler Car park, drop our packs and then take the cars to Rainbow Reach to be waiting for us when we finish the track. If anyone is interested in doing the track in 4 days, that could be accommodated too. If there is any question of difficulties with snow or bad weather across the tops, I thought we would look at walking the Hollyford track in to Lake Alabaster and out again. Be prepared for winter conditions and come self contained regarding food etc. Names to me please by Wednesday 7 May. Date: 24-25 May - Meg Hut Fitness: Medium Contact: wakatipu.walker@gmail.com More Information: Saturday 24th. Met at Events Centre 8am. We will then go to car park at entrance to Snowfarm. Walk into Meg Hut for an early lunch. 2nd lunch along the way. Spend the night at Deep Creek Inn/hut. Where there is a coal range so will carry wood and coal. A walk up to the top of the hill over looking Lake Dunstan can be done Saturday afternoon or early on Sunday morning. Return Sunday back to car park. About 6 to 7 hours one way. Bring clothing for winter as we will be walking along the tops and could be exposed to all weathers. Beautiful views and great tors along the way. |

Also can you bring along suggestions for club trips for July to December – the committee is currently compiling a trip list for the balance of 2014. Will leave on Saturday morning, 9am. Take something to make a fire and a sweet Christmas treat to share. Walk out the next day. Going to see the old Young Australia Water Wheel and stamper. Great views look down to Lake Dunstan and over to the Pisa Range. Contact Judy - 021 142 7068 if wishing to join us. You can hire snow shoes in Queenstown. I have my own snow shoes and would be interested in leading a club snow shoeing trip on the 17th August . An alternative is to hire snow shoes ($25-00) at the snow farm and do a trip on the Pisa Range, say up the Prince burn to Column Rocks and/or the summit of Mt Pisa and return via the Kirtle burn with a stop at the Kirtleburn Hut . There are 11 people booked to go on this trip and there are two more spaces in cars if anyone else is keen! If you have a pass it is $10.00 for a bike, if not it is $70.00 return. We plan to ride to the old homestead and back. Bring lunch and a thermos of tea.
